Pachy Dev Call Notes
2/8/08

Present: Clayton, Eric, Lou

Clayton continues to work on the bugs and accessibility fixes to the templates. He is almost done with the Commentary screen and will post this afternoon.

When he posts a revision to a screen, he will post the SWF, FLA, and a text document describing the fixes that have been done. He will send email notice to the group.

He is also working to develop a behavior document for each template, so we have something concrete to discuss and modify describing how each template should work. This will also provide a guide for his work and documentation to support later development efforts. He will also develop behavior documents for template components like the movie and audio player.

Some behavior choices he has made for the Commentary template are:
Any items assigned to the three positions on the right display, either by themselves or in combination with others. An image is no longer required for text to display. So an author can have a link, just text, just a picture, just a move, or several of these.

No tombstone info will display for thumbnail images, but it will be there for accessibility.

Clicking on a thumbnail on the right with a movie assigned to it will load the movie in the area on the left and automatically begin playing the movie.

Lou brought up that the accessibility buttons in the lower right don't toggle properly if there isn't some mouse movement between clicks. For example, if you click on the Contrast button to toggle it on, and then you click it again without moving the mouse, the button doesn't get the second click and the function doesn't toggle.

Also, the Info and Help screen buttons don't toggle. I think they should so the user doesn't have to move their mouse to the Close button, and so their behavior is consistent with the other accessibility buttons in the lower right.

Another issue clayton has identified is that .mov movie files are not playing properly when a presentation is on a local hard disk (not on the web). This is some kind of security sandbox issue with the version of Flash we are working with (Flash 8). This was handled differently in Flash 6, which is what was used previously. FLVs are working ok, both from the web and locally. Local playback is an important feature, so this needs to be resolved.

Clayton has also been working on a fix for the Click to Activate problem. He has this working on the web, but not locally.

Eric has been working on trying to get the SAM fullscreen media focus template to work on our server. After discussion on the call, he will switch to working with the accessibility media focus template to create a new fullscreen media focus. He will wait until next week when clayton has worked out most of the bugs on the accessibility media focus template.

Clayton will proceed to work on the templates in priority of the ones that are used most commonly in Elixr case stories. These are:

Commentary
Slider
Media focus
Phone Dial
Exploration Entry
Zoom
