Circular Rollover Image? 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 1
So, I noticed that the Shomei Tomatsu pachyderm by SFMOMA opens with a phone dial screen, and that both the thumbnails and the central rollover image resolve into circles, which looks nice. On other phone dials, only the thumbnails resolve into circular shapes. Does anyone know how this was done for the central rollover image? I was assuming that maybe using a gif, instead of a jpg, that is cropped to a circle except for transparent pixels in the background, might work. Or is this some flash magic that I don't know about? Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Tim Svenonius @ SFMOMA is the best person to ask about this one. My guess is that they changed the central image size to be much larger, so that the circular crop covers up a larger image.

Hi Catherine-

The answer depends on if you have your own server or if you are working with a hosted server.
If you have your own server, all you need to do is change some definitions in the DB.
If you are working with on a hosted server, you will need to switch out the phonedial swf after publication. Let me know and I will post the fix. I'd do it right now, but I am not on my desktop machine.

P.S. NMC will be making this change to their hosted servers once they officially launch their services.

Best,
Scott

Scott,

I could easily change the swf in post-production. Is that something someone could send me?

Also, I'd love to know what definitions to change for the permanent fix, but it may take me some time to get that changed. I'll have to forward it to our IT consultant. We have our own server, but I'm not the person who did the install/does the updates.

Thanks,
Catherine

Hi Catherine --

In addition to using larger images for the center position (228 x 228 rather than the standard 160 x 160), I modified the Phone Dial .fla by adding a mask to the layer which contains that image. The mask is nothing more than a solid circle, about 226 x 226.

Hi Catherine-

I will attach the modified Phonedial FLA to the next post. Make sure the mask layer is turned on. As Tim says, you will need to make sure your thumbnail images are larger. This can be done manually or by changing the database definition. I would recommend the later.

The sizes are specified in the component descriptions stored in the 'compdescription' table. The field you need to modify is the XML stored in the 'DEFINITION_XML' field. Inside that XML, you will find a section that looks something like the following:
If you change that value to 228 and re-publish you should be in good shape.

Best,
Scott
