Pachy Dev Call Notes
4-11-08

In attendance: Clayton, Eric, Joel, Lou

Joel reported his final round of testing on template functionality with all bugs fixed. Yea! Celebration! Congratulations!!

Eric has begun accessibility testing (screen reader and keyboard navigation). Clayton and Eric discussed the spreadsheet Eric drafted for reporting his testing results. Eric will add an additional column for each problem reported so clayton has a space to record how he addressed it.

They also agreed to rev the version of the spreadsheet with each round of testing and fixes as a way to track the history of the work.

Eric and Clayton reviewed Clayton's Accessibility Bug Report and Eric's Bug descriptions in his spreadsheet to make sure each understood the others items.

Eric requested that clayton reduce the length of the text in the Info field because of the amount of time it took for a screen reader to move through the text during testing. Clayton agreed to do this right after the call so Eric could benefit from this during his testing today.

Clayton reported that he is still working on compiling a list of the text objects in all of the templates. This list will facilitate thinking about default and large font styles/sizes for all text in pachyderm and implementing some kind of system for managing this.

Lou asked if any issues around template performance (speed) as a result of all the work that has been done. Clayton said no, and that most of the changes have been small and shouldn't effect performance significantly.

Clayton also said that he and Josh had been discussing re-writing a portion of the pre-loading code to improve performance. The strategy would be to pre-load more things to make the templates display faster. Most of this work is in the root movie.

Clayton also said that significant performance improvements would be gained from moving to ActionScript 3 because of improved math routines and declared variable typing. He is looking at this as a possibility for the 2.1 development.

Clayton also talked about the idea of moving more of the code out of the templates to help simplify template development and allow the use of Flex as a template development tool. Flex works with Eclipse and has a free compiler.
