Hi Everyone:
If you are using the
NMC server, or a server with te 2.0.4 version of Pachyderm, you may have run into some problems with accent marks in your Pachyderms. I have had the most trouble with the exploration entry screen, so i decided to post this here.
Recently, the McNay challenged me to fix an accent mark on an exploration entry screen for them and it took me a few hours of wrestling with the laptop to fix it. I figured it someone else may run into this problem again so I wanted to share how I fixed it:
To fix accents:
1.Download the finished presentation and unzip it.
2.Download a copy of all the most recent published flash files for templates from Sourceforge.
3.Place them in the unzipped version of the Pachyderm presentation, replacing the older versions when the computer asks.
4.Open each xml file in the presentation folder, one-by-one, using wordpad. Read through each document searching for words with accent marks. Take out the strange characters and type in the letter with an accent using the Ctrl+’+letter key stroke combination.
5.Save each one.
6.Open index.html and look for instances where the changes didn’t take properly or missed accents.
7.Go back through the xml files to fix above.
8.You may try copying a version of the word where it functions properly and pasting it in the spot where it is funky.
Then you have to modify the exploration entry screen in flash...
In the exploration entry screen, the question slots still do not take accent marks. To fix this:
1.Download the most recent exploration_entry.fla from Source Forge.
2.Make a copy of it and save in a separate folder.
3.Open the file in Flash.
4.Move the timeline head so the screen fully shows up.
5.On the left side, in the library, double click on the file named question_text copy to open it.
6.Double click on the box in the center of the screen. A cursor will start to blink. In the property box below, hit the Embed button
7.A menu will open. Select the first line “All (39477 glyphs)” and hit ok.
8.Save the file.
9.Publish the file.
10.Close Flash
11.Find the new .swf in the folder where you saved the new version of the fla. Copy it.
12.Drop it into the presentation and replace the older version.
13.Test out the screen by opening index.html
You have to do both parts to get the exploration entry screen to work. This is a little clunky, so if anyone else has a better suggestion, please let me know. Note: the new version of the exploration entry .swf will be large, so only use it when you must.
I hope this helps!
