Back button in root.fla 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey guys

My name is Kengo and I am working on modifying pachyderm templates for an exhibition. I was wondering if anyone could help out with this problem:

--> The BACK BUTTON in the root.fla file
isn't coded (the open source files)

In the presentations that you download off of pachyderm you have a folder of multiple .swf files which are not editable. I have already modified the root file to suite my particular specifications. As you can see in the attached image file, there is no back button (since I have not dragged it into the root file)

What I am really hoping for is:

(1) if anyone has a root.fla file which already has the actionscript for the BACK BUTTON, please send it my way;

OR

(2) provide the code for the button.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Kengo,

Do you have the back button SWF in your root_assets directory?
The code should be in the root.fla to activate this button. Did you strip it out of the original root.fla?

Best,
Scott

Hey Scott,

Thanks for this file (it is different from the one that I downloaded, and I am probing around)!

Unfortunately I can't work on this until the weekend is over (at the computer I am working at, the museum will be closed for the holiday).

I see that the goBack function is coded - but, I am also looking at the backBtNMC in the library, and it isn't in use. I am guessing this is where I'd make an instance name for the button to link to the function in the actions layer. I also do realize that the "starting page" has the back button absent, and that the following pages in the presentation have it set to visible.

However, I will leave you with this question until I can come back if that is okay:

My question is: what do I do to make it work?

PS: Would you like to see a mock up presentation .fla for clarity?

Thank you for your help times a million.

Hi Scott,

Yes, I do have the back button .swf in my root_assets directory. I dabbled around a bit, and I think I know the source of the problem. I think it resides in the root_border.fla

Perhaps, as with your root file and mine, there is a difference in the root_border files as well.

I tested it out by taking out the root_border.swf that came with the downloaded presentation, and replacing it with the open source version (unmodified by me), and it does not appear.

On another note, when I do modify properties in the .fla I do not mess around with the coding. All I do is shift the layout around / minor animation tweaks. That being said, I don't believe that I have altered any of the technical aspects of the files.

I was wondering (1) what your thoughts are about this, and (2) would you perhaps be able to send me a root_border.fla as well?

Thank you.

Scott!

I've figured it out.

I went into pachyderm2.04 > extras > frame_editor and took the root_border.as and fla, played around with it and got it to work.

Thanks for your help.
