Pachyderm Dev Call Notes, 4/25/08

In attendance: Clayton, Joel, Lou, and Eric

Clayton reported that he had completed the tab field for the text area in all the templates.

Clayton also addressed one of the issues in Eric's accessibility excel file -- describing images and other media items in a meaningful way. Each item was described in its own xml file and could be edited. Two suggestions were made to each media item's information. First was to go into each xml file and make necessary changes. The second suggestion was to establish an authoring environment and recreate each presentation with more meaningful description for the media items. In order to have the authoring environment established, Clayton would need to have Pachy 2.1 folder zipped up and sent to him. The last version of the the development is on Josh's eclipse dev folder. Clayton suggested that if someone at CDL would open Josh's copy of eclipse, there should be two pachyderm projects. Find out where the workspace is and send it to Clayton. Because it might take a while to establish the authoring environment, Eric agreed to take on the first suggestion and edit each xml file as needed.

Lou asked if there was a transcript feature for videos. There is currently a transcript feature for audio. Clayton will check and see if it is true that the transcript feature is also available for videos. He will put on the feature in one of templates for testing.

Also, Clayton suggested that one way to create the transcript file was to convert the caption file by removing the break tags and xml nodes. He raised a concern about the style formatting of the stripped-caption-file transcript file. Should the transcript have the same line-by-line layout like the caption, or in a paragraph format? Eric will talk to Scott Kupferman about the formatting issue and get back to the team on it.

The other suggested way to create a transcript file that the team talked about was to have the author provide the transcript file. If the author doesn't have a transcript file, then we would convert the caption file into a transcript.

Joel mentioned about the caption placement issue. Clayton and Joel will talk about it at another time.

Joel asked Clayton about changing the default small font size from 12pt to 14pt, and large font size would remain 20pt on the caption display. Clayton will make the change.

Eric mentioned that he would be meeting with Scott on Monday to review Josh's accessibility document and Eric's other recommendations based on his review of the templates. Clayton said that he would try to have the more revised templates for Eric's meeting with Scott.

Clayton said that he would provide the files of xml and also create an experiment folder for Eric to upload revised xmls for testing purposes. Clayton is also trying to bring the authoring environment up by next Friday.

Lou will talk with Susan or Michelle about the pachy 2.1 zipped folder for Clayton.
